Pre-employment Testing

Why Test Pre-employment?

Pre-employment testing takes place when a prospective employee is asked to provide a specimen for drug and/or alcohol analysis at some stage in the recruitment process. Such tests can take place when an applicant attends a job interview or at a later point. Pre-employment testing can provide an employer with an indication of whether a prospective candidate for a job has a lifestyle involving illicit drug or excessive alcohol use. The employer can make an assessment of their suitability for future employment.

The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) expressly excludes drugs and alcohol such that it is not discriminatory to reject a job applicant on these grounds.
