UK sales of low-alcohol and no-alcohol beers have almost doubled in five years as weaker versions of global brands such as Heineken and Budweiser helped convert drinkers from carbonated soft drinks. Drinkers in the UK bought $454mn of alcohol-free and low-alcohol brews in 2021, as they tapped into lower drinking rates among younger generations and fresh marketing drives by global brewers.
Across Europe, drinks below 0.5% ABV are classed as alcohol free. In the UK drinks that are between 0.05% and 0.5% ABV are classed as non-alcoholic. Here are some of our team’s favourites:
Cider – Smashed Apple by Drynks
The taste delivers a perfect balance of sharpness, sweetness and bite. The initial refreshing upfront green apple taste is perfectly complimented with a great mouthfeel and a satisfying mature English cider finish great refreshment & moreish.
Beer – Clear Head by Bristol Beer Factory
To give Clear Head plenty of punch, BBF have combined Citra and Mosaic hops. Flavours of sharp citrus, apple and stone fruits give this beer great body. Finishing with a crisp dryness on your palette, you won’t miss a thing with this alcohol-free pint of beer.
Wine – The Very Cautious Shiraz by De Bortoli
A beautiful vibrant red Shiraz with plush ripe berry fruit. Alcohol-free wines have just natural ingredients and but techniques to ensure it is alcohol free vary. This includes removing sugar pre-fermentation to more sophisticated techniques of spinning the alcohol out through cones.
Prosecco – Nozeco
This prosecco has intense fruity notes, dominated by white flowers and white grapes.
